Please Fix My Xbox 360 - What to Do When You Get the Red Ring of Death

 Find Re-Ring

The red ring of death on Xbox 360 is not cool. Believe it or not, it's a very common problem that many console owners have to deal with. This little article will uncover some of the techniques that I used to fix my Xbox 360 and will hopefully help your fix yours.
Believe me, I know how frustrating it can be for your Xbox 360 system to tear up. If you're playing your favorite game and suddenly your screen goes blank and your Xbox starts flashing red lights, it can definitely ruin your day. Not only will you lose all your progress, but being left with a 20 pound $300 paperweight is not fun. The sad thing is, even if you get the red ring of death once and fix it, it's pretty safe to say you'll probably get it again. This all goes back to the cause for the red ring epidemic (which we'll discuss later in the article).
There is some good news though. Most consoles aren't doomed because of the red ring of death. All your system needs is a little tweaking. Read on in this article for tips and tricks that I used to fix my Xbox 360.
1. Find Out the Cause for the Red Ring of Death
In order to even begin to fix this problem I found it important to understand what causes this problem in the first place. In fact, 99% of the time the red ring of death can be summed up by one problem: heat.
You see, when Microsoft released the Xbox 360 in 2005, they overlooked one very important detail. Inside the system there is a mechanism called a heatsink. The heatsink is responsible for keeping the system cool while it's running. Unfortunately, in order to fit the DVD player in the system, Microsoft reduced the size of the heatsink by about 25%. This causes way too much heat to build up when you're playing your console and pretty soon parts start to bend and damage. It literally gets so hot in your Xbox 360 that metal components start to warp!
2. Some things you can do to reduce the chances of getting the red ring of death
Since the basic problem that causes Xbox 360 systems to crash is heat, what we want to do is try to disperse this heat as much as possible. This can be done by using a few little tricks like these:
• Never put your console directly on the carpet. Carpet is like wrapping a blanket around your Xbox 360. It will only trap the heat inside and causes the problem to get worse.
• Check your console for dust build-up around the air vents.
• Often, when the power brick gets too hot, it will cause Xbox 360 problems. So make sure your power block stays cool by pointing a small house fan on it while you play your system.
